Ingredients

  • baguette, sliced into 1/2-inch thick pieces
  • tablespoons olive oil
  • oz soft goat cheese, at room temperature
  • 1/4 cup black mission fig jam
  • oz thinly sliced smoked prosciutto
  • tablespoon dark balsamic glaze
  • teaspoon fresh thyme leaves

Prep Steps

  1. 1Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush both sides of the baguette slices with olive oil and toast on a baking sheet for 5 minutes
  2. 2minutes until lightly golden and crisp.
  3. 3Remove the crostini from the oven and allow to cool slightly. Spread a generous layer of the soft goat cheese on each slice.
  4. 4Top the goat cheese with a small dollop of black mission fig jam, then carefully drape a piece of smoked prosciutto over the jam.
  5. 5Drizzle the crostini with the dark balsamic glaze and sprinkle with fresh thyme leaves for an aromatic finish.

Chef's Tip & Pairing

For a truly "dark side" presentation, use a black sesame seed baguette. Pair this rich, savory appetizer with a medium-bodied, slightly spicy Zinfandel to complement the smoked meat and fig.
