Ingredients

  • small baguette, sliced into 1/2-inch thick rounds
  • tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • oz mascarpone cheese, softened
  • tbsp crème de cacao (dark or light)
  • tbsp brandy (Cognac or Armagnac)
  • tbsp powdered sugar
  • 1/4
  • tsp ground nutmeg, plus extra for garnish
  • oz dark chocolate (at least 70% cacao), for shaving

Prep Steps

  1. 1Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Brush both sides of the baguette slices with melted butter and arrange them on a baking sheet. Toast for 8 minutes
  2. 2minutes, or until lightly golden and crisp. Let cool completely.
  3. 3In a small bowl, combine the softened mascarpone cheese, crème de cacao, brandy, powdered sugar, and 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg. Whisk until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  4. 4Using a small spoon or offset spatula, spread a generous layer of the Brandy Alexander cream mixture onto each cooled crostini.
  5. 5Use a vegetable peeler or sharp knife to shave the dark chocolate directly over the crostini. Garnish each with a tiny pinch of ground nutmeg.

Chef's Tip & Pairing

For an exceptional pairing, serve this crostini with a glass of the cocktail that inspired it, the Brandy Alexander, or a rich, dark-roast coffee. To prevent the crostini from becoming soggy, prepare the cream mixture ahead of time but only assemble the crostini just before serving.
