  • 1 artisanal baguette, thinly sliced
  • 8 ounces mascarpone cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for a subtle kick)
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate, finely chopped and melted
  • 1/2 cup mini M&M's candies
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Brush both sides of baguette slices with melted butter and arrange on a baking sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes minutes, or until lightly golden and crisp.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the softened mascarpone cheese, powdered sugar, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, cayenne pepper (if using), and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and well combined.
  3. Once the crostini are cooled, spread a generous layer of the spiced mascarpone mixture onto each slice.
  4. Drizzle the melted dark chocolate artfully over the mascarpone-topped crostini.
  5. Immediately sprinkle the mini M&M's candies over the chocolate, ensuring they adhere before the chocolate sets.
  6. Arrange the finished crostini on a serving platter and serve immediately, or chill briefly to allow the chocolate to set before serving.

Chef's Tip & Pairing

For an extra layer of flavor, lightly toast the spices (cinnamon and nutmeg) in a dry pan for 30 seconds before adding them to the mascarpone. Pair this sweet treat with a glass of chilled Tawny Port.
