Midnight Harvest Black Garlic Crostini

Tini Crostini

This crostini offers a hauntingly delicious blend of sweet, savory, and earthy notes, perfect for a sophisticated autumnal gathering. The creamy tang of goat cheese is perfectly complemented by the molasses-like depth of black garlic and a hint of sweet fig jam. It's a sophisticated bite that captures the dark, rich flavors of the late autumn harvest.

Cheese & Dairy

Ingredients

  • 1 baguette, thinly sliced and toasted
  • 4 ounces fresh goat cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons black garlic paste
  • 1 tablespoon honey, preferably local
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves, finely chopped
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil, for drizzling
  • Microgreens or edible flowers, for garnish (optional)

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Arrange the baguette slices on a baking sheet and toast for 5-7 minutes minutes, or until lightly golden and crisp. Set aside to cool slightly.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the softened goat cheese, black garlic paste, honey, chopped fresh thyme, sea salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined and smooth.
  3. Spread a generous amount of the black garlic goat cheese mixture onto each toasted crostini slice.
  4. Arrange the crostini on a serving platter.
  5. Drizzle lightly with extra virgin olive oil.
  6. Garnish with microgreens or edible flowers, if desired, just before serving.

Chef's Tip & Pairing

Pair this rich, earthy appetizer with a slightly sweet red wine like a Zinfandel or a dark, malty stout to match the deep, complex flavors of the black garlic and fig.
